Antique cameos are beautiful works of art, as well as jewelry. According to Vintage Jewelry Lane: “the word cameo specifically describes a relief image which is raised higher than its background and which has been carved from only one material.” They generally feature portraits of people or nature. Double check and make sure that you selected Portrait not Cameo. Because that happened to me and I didn't check. Pix March 10, 2013. I just called and was told that I need to create an online account first and then register my Silhouette. Am going to do this and hopefully it will accept the serial number! It feels much more 'delicate' than my Cricut E...but don't let it fool you..it can do some really neat stuff. I believe you need to install the driver before you send anything to the machine.
Now I wouldn't purposely drop it on the floor or try dancing on it but it does it's job. You need to turn the blue release latch on the carrier to the left to unlock it (counter clock wise)..then put the blade carrier in..but don't forget to set the blade height before you do that...I usually hold the blue latch with one hand and slip the blade into it so it doesn't push down on the moving head. Lock it and cut.
Hope you enjoy it..I like mine.Cricut Expression, Personal and Silhouette Cameo SCAL2&3, Silhouette StudioVinyl Cutting and some CraftingWestminster, CA -
My cameo is creeks and crackles when it's cutting.. it's made out of plastic, not super sturdy. That's why it's so cheap to buy.I don't often test my code... But when I do, I do it in production.

There are lots of groups on facebook that are very active with lots of help for Cameo users. It is a very different machine than a cougar. It is delicate in comparison, but if you are cutting vinyl and paper only it does amazingly great cuts easily. I have never cut using their software so I can not help you there.0·Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Too bad Andy doesn't have a plug-in for the Mac side, but it's working on Windows for MTC. Their software is what I was having problems with.
No creaking, very quiet and the settings appear to be right on so you aren't guessing about pressure, depth or speed. Seems to be very nice so far.
I didn't realize the sketch feature was on their expensive software and not sure it's worth the 50 dollar upgrade. I thought it would be cool to do some sketching on some nice paper. Don't have the money right now anyway.
Craft Edge is being a PITA about their upgrade to run the Cameo and insists none of my serial numbers are correct and my trials have run out. I only tolerate SCAL as it's the only company that works completely with a Mac.
I bought their fabric blade as well. See how that goes.
Now I can thoroughly cleanse myself from PC products.
Not sure I want to upgrade completely on my Windows side as I like the slider features instead of the numbers.

Cool glad you got it working...So on the SCAL side you have the SCAL2 for MAC and they won't let you upgrade to SCAL3 for MAC? That's really weird, especially since you have the software already installed.Cricut Expression, Personal and Silhouette Cameo SCAL2&3, Silhouette StudioVinyl Cutting and some CraftingWestminster, CA

@Jax69,
I have SCAL 2 and 3 paid versions for a year or so. It had me do an update to get the cameo plug-in and now insists I have nothing when I started up the program. I've printed out the serial numbers and keep them in a folder. After the update, neither program works. I'll work it out tomorrow with Craft Edge as it's been a long day. If I lost SCAL2, I'm out of luck for the C and might as well sell it or give it away. That's why I purchased the Cameo, just in case my C software died. Between the Cameo and the Cougar, I figured I'd have a perfect mix. -
@Bethany...That sucks..If you paid for SCAL2 you should be able to re-download it that was the deal with them and SCAL3 was a free upgrade...all you needed to do was provide your SCAL2 serial number...I did it so I know how it was supposed to work...Cricut Expression, Personal and Silhouette Cameo SCAL2&3, Silhouette StudioVinyl Cutting and some CraftingWestminster, CA

@Jax69, I'll see how it goes tomorrow. I paid for 3 as I never got my serial number for 2 to work..couldn't find the last digits and their customer service sucked at the time so just bought it. Will let you know.

Bethany, there is a Silhouette forum. http://s15.zetaboards.com/Silhouette_Plus/index/
You will get lots of help there for the software and Cameo machine. You can still sketch too without the upgraded version.
Enjoy your new machine!!0·Share on FacebookShare on Twitter -
@Jax69,
Got it up and running. Didn't lose SCAL2 so I'm still good. I just wish I was good enough to figure out a way to get MTC's Mac version to work with a Cameo.
